What You Need to Get Started

The N610 IP PRO is the base station only. Handsets are sold separately, and you can choose any mix of compatible Gigaset PRO models up to a total of 8.

The base connects to your network through an RJ45 Ethernet port (10/100 Mbps). It can draw power from a PoE switch or injector (IEEE 802.3af class 1), or from the mains power supply in the box. You will also need a SIP account for each line, from your phone system or VoIP provider.

Choosing handsets for your IP DECT base station

The N610 works with the Gigaset S700H PRO, R700H PRO, SL800H PRO, S650H PRO, R650H PRO and SL750H PRO handsets, and with the Gigaset Maxwell C DECT desk phone. The S700H PRO, SL800H PRO and R700H PRO each have a 2.4" colour display and support headsets by Bluetooth 4.2 or a 3.5 mm jack.

Gigaset S700H PRO

A general office handset with up to 12 hours of talk time and 300 hours on standby. It has a separately programmable alarm button and a key for switching audio profiles.

Gigaset SL800H PRO

The slimmest of the three, with the longest battery life: up to 15 hours of talk time and 300 hours on standby. It also has a vibrating alarm for noisy places.

Gigaset R700H PRO

A rugged handset rated IP65, with a non-slip rubberised case and a spot LED that works as a torch and as a call light. It gives up to 13 hours of talk time and 320 hours on standby.

Extending range with Gigaset repeaters

One N610 base covers up to 50 metres indoors. Walls, floors and metal shelving reduce this, so larger or more solid buildings may need extra coverage. You can add up to 6 Gigaset DECT repeaters to the base, and handsets connect to whichever one is in range.

Call security

DECT calls are digital and encrypted over the air, so a conversation cannot be picked up by a nearby radio. The N610 adds SIP security on the network side. Voice is encrypted with SRTP and signalling with SIPS and TLS (versions 1.0 to 1.3). The web interface uses HTTPS and directory lookups can use LDAPS. Full end-to-end encryption depends on your PBX or provider supporting it.

Setup and management for IT teams

The N610 supports zero-touch auto-provisioning by MAC address or XML configuration file, so a supported platform can configure the base when it is plugged in. Administrators can also set it up through a browser-based interface with online help.

For ongoing management, the base has backup and restore, firmware upgrade and downgrade, and scheduled firmware updates from a server. Logging goes to an external syslog server, and the base supports PCAP tracing and SNMPv3. On the network, it supports VLAN tagging (IEEE 802.1q) and QoS.

Compatible phone systems

The N610 works with a wide range of on-premise and cloud phone systems, including 3CX, Asterisk and BroadSoft. Gigaset keeps the current list of tested platforms and providers at wiki.gigasetpro.com. Some call functions, such as call forwarding and distinctive ringing, depend on what your PBX or provider supports.

Other brands of DECT handsets can connect through the GAP standard for basic calls, but the directory and multi-line functions need a Gigaset PRO handset.

Is a single-cell DECT system the right size for you?

A single-cell system uses one base station, with repeaters if needed. The N610 is the simpler choice for up to 8 users. If you need more handsets or several base stations linked with call handover between them, a multi-cell system is the better fit.
